Reading is such a habit which takes time to develop in an individual, but sometimes it also happens in such a way that even an avid reader does not feel like opening the book and read.

From a very young age, I have enjoyed reading books or every piece of literature, but somehow certain things left me in a slump.  So, whenever I want to come out of the slump and want to read something which gives me comfort, I always turn the pages of a book by none other than my dearest author, Ruskin Bond. I have always read and enjoyed books by Ruskin Bond and I equally believe that everyone must read his books at any point of their lives.

Ruskin Bond’s books are simple in outline and touches the cords of the readers’ hearts.

To share the brief of Bond’s life, he is an Indian author with British descent. Mr. Bond was born on 19th May, 1934 in Kasuali. His elementary education was completed at Shimla in India. He was fond of writing when he was a kid and thus ended up writing first short story, Untouchables, at the age of sixteen in 1951.

His books have always been my companion whenever I need warmth, with closed eyes, I pick any of his book, but the one book which has always cemented its place in my heart since a decade now is The Blue Umbrella.

This is a story of a small girl Binya who hails from a small village. She saw one aesthetic umbrella of a Japanese tourist. She fell for that umbrella so strongly that she exchanged the umbrella with her necklace. What happened when she got that umbrella from the tourist?  The story is simple and short. It portrays several emotions of an individual but the author has done it with an ease.

Being a kid, he has spent his life in mountains, rivers and hills thus we can easily gauge the influence of his surroundings in the book. I can recommend several books and short stories written by Mr. Ruskin Bond, but I am listing another 9 books which I feel everyone should pick and dive into once in a while.

We can also find books by Mr. Bond in the curriculum of schools as well, which I feel is indeed a good approach to introduce children to the authors. By reading fictions, kids can develop and explore the understanding towards the cross culture and demographics.

While I have read many books written by several authors but I feel I find my comfort in reading Ruskin Bond’s book. I hope you have already chosen your next read from the list I have provided. Let me know in the comment section.
